And so keeping in tune with the year the back collapsed on me… with a slip disc I hobbled around albeit sideways while my puppy tried his best not to trip me up on stairs (unsuccessfully) and my husband worked on being the ‘perfect stick’ for me to lean on (equally unsuccessfully).
And though I was told I should rest I hobbled thru my walk ( a much shorter version though) and turned up to office and went to meetings as was scheduled. I even went to a friend’s party on Saturday and ….. hung out on the uber comfortable couch (thanks Nosh)… but I still went!
I had a friend over on Wednesday and we chatted for hours and I heated food and served it and went about hosting her like a pro, or so I’d like to think…And tonight we’re going out again… cos I’ve realised its mind over matter and pain mustn’t stop me from doing things or meeting people… because I don’t want to regret times I ‘could have had.’
And despite being called ‘a control-freak’ by some-namely Mom and Aditya, I realised that what I had was the most positive version of #FOMO.
#FOMO (the fear of missing out) is usually regarded as a negative, negative hashtag and often in our busy lives we really make fun of it and enjoy the precious silences and alone time.
But take it from me, when it becomes difficult to do something, you really miss the time it was easy. You miss choice when you don’t have any. When people wonder why I clock the time when my arm hurts ; it’s because I need to be grateful for the time it doesn’t. What I miss most about my life pre-multiple sclerosis; is waking up without any pain. But now every day I get up; I get out and make the best of it. I know that today is possibly easier than tomorrow and I’m not going to miss today.
So I love having too many invitations and try and do everything because there is no joy for me in missing out… We take too many things in our lives for granted- let’s now enjoy every moment of the ability to be able to do all the things important to us! There is true joy in that.
P.s.(Palat says)-: Don’t hate the noise and busyness … the silence is lonely.
And with Multiple sclerosis , the mood swings for me are a bit intense. It doesn’t help that I’m a Gemini- Taurus cusp or that I have a steroid producing brain tumour or that I’m plain nuts… but I do seem to have really low lows. The plus is that I am logical enough to know it’s temporary and fixable. The minus is more often than not I’m not sure how to do that and get frustrated with myself for not knowing how to!
And then I think about the number of times we’ve had flaws pointed out in our Bffs by others and how fiercely we’ve stood by and protected them! They are not flaws, we insist; merely traits that make them more unique, more special and more loved.
What if we were to apply the same rules to ourselves?
So when we are meeting an indecisive client who doesn’t see the amount of effort it took us to create something special and we’re feeling low, instead of blaming ourselves for not realising that the work we’ve done won”t be immediately appreciated or faulting ourselves when the work out we’ve been killing ourselves with doesn’t give us the results we need today- we should love ourselves- much like the Bff who doesn’t always return calls or the one who is perennially late. We know that good things come to those who wait for them… why don’t we allow ourselves the same indulgence?
Why are we so mean to ourselves? Why do we give everyone around us a break except ourselves?
And it’s almost with pride that we say that ‘we are our harshest critic!’ Isn’t that sad? Shouldn’t we instead be our biggest fan? Cos if we were friends with ourselves , we’d actually think that we’re pretty darn amazing! Why shouldn’t we allow ourselves to be proud of who we are?
So I’m gonna start- I am absolutely nuts on one hand and supremely focused on the other- that makes me fabulous to hang out with, never short of conversation or gossip! I’m insanely driven and I’m fiercely protective and loyal. I am a fighter having fought MS and fighting it every day and that makes me pretty amazing! I would choose a friend with all of these qualities. So today and forever I choose me!
P.s.-: We have enough people in the world who’d like to pull us down…. there’s no point joining them. They don’t need the help!
In a world where we consistently look outside for our happiness, our love, our security and even our stress… it was a wonderful realisation that I came to when I realised I had complete control of how I made myself feel.
I could feel successful, happy and a winner or feel stressed, worried and always on the short end of the stick… the choice was ALWAYS, and I capitalise this to stress the importance- MINE!
With this new found knowledge I have come to realise that God , the Universe…whatever you may call it… is just a bundle of things trying to make me feel exactly the way I want to feel… so when I say…”Oh I’m so stressed!”… it gives me stress… On the other hand when I say “I’m going to walk out a winner!”… I do.
Yup… it’s just that easy…
Don’t believe me… I mean why would you!? Then try something fun today…
Take 5 minutes and put the positive in to everything you do…
- Instead of “I wish the client would…” …Say “The client will…”
- Instead of saying “I’m so tired” …Treat yourself to something nice…
Just 5 minutes and watch the entire day turn around…
…now imagine you’d tried this in the morning…:)!
…no worries… it’s never too late to start! I just did!
Everything will not go right today. You will grow older but no more mature. You may not find the one you love. You may fall out with people that you care about. You may not finish what you started….you may be no more closer to finishing it actually. You may lose an argument, your job, a friend. You may be in more debt, scrape your newly painted car, fall on a dirty pavement wearing your nicest white shirt. Everything will not go right today.
But the sun will still come up and you will meet strangers who have no preconceived notions of you. You will receive smiles for no reason at all. And you might even notice someone who has been noticing you your entire life. You will witness kindness. You might even get the opportunity to be kind. You will see innocence. You will have conversations. You will see if you open your eyes and actually see!
Life is not about a glass half full or a glass half empty…it’s about the milk that’s in it! It’s about tasting life with it’s ups and downs and actually living the moment.
There is absolutely no stress worth stressing about because someone out there has it worse than you.If you are having a bad day, someone else is having a worse one! They say ‘Smile and the World Smiles with you…’….I think it’s not about having or getting other people to smile- it’s just about actually smiling!
You are born. You are blessed. You are loved or have the potential to be loved and you have the ability to love others. You get this amazing experience of life where you will see many different colours, people, places and things. You are the Chosen One. God chose YOU.
You must be special. BELIEVE IT!
Rise and shine. It’s a new day. Smile. Walk. Run. Talk. Eat. Laugh. See. Do.
Don’t waste time on tears. Don’t waste time on fears. Life will happen regardless.
You may win. You will lose. You will love. You will hate. You may achieve but you must always try. Live the truth.
There will be days where you don’t want to get up. There will be days where you won’t want to sleep! There will be days that you’d love to forget and there will be those that you’ll remember every moment of.
Dream. If those dreams shatter and make some new dreams. There will be plans and they may not happen. Life has it’s own plans…It doesn’t need yours!
Save money. You will make money and you will lose money. You’ll be in debt and then you may have more than you need. Save.
Walk the road with your head held high. You may trip. You may even fall. But get up and keep walking because life is an adventure and though sometimes you are in the darkest tunnel remember there’s always a moment when you see the glorious hint of the sun!
Love. Fall in love. Rise in love. Give love. Demand love. It makes the journey of life worthwhile.
Don’t expect to love everyone and don’t expect everyone to love you.
Respect- give respect and be worthy of respect.
Inspire and be inspired! Don’t shut your mind to new experiences. Open your mind!
Eat the cupcake. Don’t spend your life on diet cause you will always see yourself as fat then! Don’t spend your life on food because you’ll miss out on other experiences then.
Have an opinion. Find one. Make one. Create one.
Laugh without a care.
Today is a great day because in the movie of your life-YOU ARE THE STAR!
